Technology has become a game-changer. It might have started centuries ago with the advent of the wheel but today’s techno-world has moved eons beyond the days of yore when Emerson created the electric light bulb and old fashion dial-up telephones were all the rage.

National Technology Day is celebrated January 6. Imagine our world without the technological advances that have become almost ho-hum routine in just the past decade!

From the wheel to smartphones, technology has been changing the world. January 6 is the day to recognize those achievements and to look to the future of technology.

The Technology field is one of the strongest and fastest growing industries. NEW! US Army Physician Assistant Handbook

The U.S. Army Medical Department, Borden Institute, recently released its new US Army Physician Assistant Handbook.

The Army Physician Assistant (PA) plays an important role throughout Army medicine. This comprehensive handbook by the Borden Institute, describes the myriad positions and organizations in which PAs display leadership roles in management and patient care. Chapters also cover PA education, certification, continuing training, and career progression. Topics include the Interservice PA Program, assignments at the White House and the Old Guard (3d US Infantry Regiment), and roles in research and recruiting, as well as the PA’s role in emergency medicine, aeromedical evacuation, clinical care, surgery, and occupational health.

US Army Physician Assistant Handbook is an excellent resource for military and civilian healthcare providers as well as emergency first responders.

NEW! Medical Aspects of Biological Warfare eBook

The U.S. Army Medical Department, Borden Institute, recently released its new Medical Aspects of Biological Warfare eBook.

Reflecting the critical threat posed by biological warfare and terrorism in a post 9-11 world, Medical Aspects of Biological Warfare now in its second edition, addresses the weaponization of biological agents, categorizing potential agents as food, waterborne, or agricultural agents or toxins, and discusses their respective epidemiology. Recent advances in biomedical knowledge are presented that include descriptions of individual agents and the illnesses induced. Authors discuss biotoxins and explain methods for early identification for anthrax, plague, smallpox, alphaviruses, and staphylococcal enterotoxins. We know you’re probably busy hanging stockings with care, prepping milk and cookies, and writing letters to the North Pole, but we’re back with another installment of GPO’s gift guide series, and this is our most important gift idea yet! Army History: The Professional Bulletin of Army History, a professional military magazine, published four times a year by the U.S. CMH, is devoted to informing the military history community about new work on the Army’s history. The U.S. Army in the World War I Era is part of the U.S. Army Campaigns of World War I series. Hey there! How is the holiday season treating you so far? What’s that? You’ve got a competitive cookie exchange coming up, you need to find a tacky sweater last minute, and you’ve been struggling to come up with what to get your nature-loving niece? Your GPO elves are here to help! Well, with the last thing, that is. Today, we’re bringing you gift ideas for the great outdoorsman.

Our first gift idea is a National Park Pack. The lovely coffee table book Treasured Landscapes from the GPO Bookstore showcases paintings, watercolors, sketches, and other works on paper from over 50 National Park Service museum collections. New eBooks from the National Cancer Institute

Every day somewhere across America cancer strikes one of us, our families, friends, or neighbors. It’s a devastating disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy body tissues. Cancer comes in many forms such as skin, lung, pancreatic, prostate, breast, brain, even our bones and blood (leukemia).

Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be traumatic. So it’s vitally important to become informed and to take steps to get in control of whatever circumstance it brings.
