The U.S. Department of State provides an inclusive atmosphere and collaborative environment in which all employees are encouraged to communicate and exchange information. Diplomats in Residence

Diplomats in Residence (DIRs) are career Foreign Service Officers and Specialists located throughout the U.S. who provide guidance and advice on careers, internships and fellowships to students and professionals in the communities they serve. DIRs are available to answer questions and share insight with those interested in Foreign and Civil Service careers, internships and fellowships.


Recruitment Events

U.S. diplomats and members of the U.S. Department of State’s Human Resources Management team attend local career fairs for university students, alumni and professionals, host career information sessions and speak with organizations and groups in communities throughout the country about Foreign and Civil Service careers, internships and fellowships.
