We want to hear from you!

Federal regulations and requirements impact families and businesses all across America every day. However, there is no forum that systematically collects information on how federal regulations impact our lives so we can effectively cut red tape. Led by Chairman James Lankford from Oklahoma and Ranking Democratic Member Heidi Heitkamp from North Dakota, the Senate Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management Subcommittee of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is gathering stories of the experiences individuals and businesses have with regulations for their #CutRedTape Initiative. The Subcommittee’s goal is to make the federal government work better for our nation’s businesses and families.

Do federal regulations impact how you run your business? Are you concerned about the slow process to update or repeal old regulations? Do you have a story that shows how the regulatory process could be more effective or more efficient?  Would you like to share a story about regulations that hampered or enhanced economic opportunities? Examples might include:

  • I’m a small business owner and federal rules have increased the paperwork I must fill out each year regarding an aspect of my business.
  • I’m a landowner in rural America whose property adjoins federal land, and it takes forever to get regulatory questions answered.  How can we make this work better?
  • A federal regulation was supposed to be out a year ago, but it is still pending. This makes it very difficult for me to make future plans for my business.

Such information is vital to effective regulatory oversight and any effort to improve the regulatory process.  Chairman Lankford and Ranking Member Heitkamp have made it a priority to have the government work better and more efficiently, and they hope to tackle complex regulatory issues in a bipartisan and meaningful manner.  The #CutRedTape portal is essential in understanding how regulations affect every day Americans and their businesses, and to fulfilling the Subcommittee’s oversight authority to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness and accountability of the federal government. The Subcommittee’s goal is to share the stories we get with the relevant federal agencies, as well as examine the stories for trends and ideas that could improve the regulatory process.

So, Chairman Lankford and Ranking Member Heitkamp want to hear your story:  How do federal regulations impact you?  How can we cut red tape?
