Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth Hosts Policy Dinner on Family First Prevention Services Act

Jul 26, 2018

WASHINGTON – This week, the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth hosted experts and former foster youth at a policy dinner to highlight the importance of the Family First Prevention Services Act, which was signed into law as part of the Bipartisan Budget Act on February 9, 2018. The panel discussion, which was attended by Members of the Congressional Caucus on Foster Youth, as well as Members who sit on the House Committee on Ways and Means, featured John Sciamanna, Vice President of Public Policy for the Child Welfare League of America, and Brittney Barros and Shumeka Moorewho, two former foster youth who are now child welfare advocates.

“Now that the Family First Prevention Services Act has been signed into law, we must focus on implementation,” said Congressmember Karen Bass. “We cannot let up on our mission to save lives within the child welfare system and we can only be successful if we include the voices of former foster youth who actually grew up in care. I’m grateful to all of my colleagues who participated tonight and look forward to continuing our work together to change our child welfare system for the better.”
