Shuster Selected to Serve on Conference Committee for 2019 National Defense Authorization Act

WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) selected to serve on the Conference Committee for the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019.

“I am honored to once again be chosen by Speaker Paul Ryan and Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry to negotiate the National Defense Authorization Act,” said Shuster. “Providing for the national defense is the foremost responsibility of the federal government.  It is an honor to be selected as a conferee for this must-pass legislation that provides our military the resources it needs to defend American citizens at home and abroad.”

“As a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, I take the responsibility to ensure fiscal responsibility in the defense budget, while simultaneously maintaining a strong and capable military, very seriously, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in both the House and the Senate in support of these goals.”

The House passed H.R. 5515, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 on May 24, 2018. Shuster will represent the House Armed Services Committee during negotiations with the Senate as the two chambers craft a final combined bill that authorizes funding for the Department of Defense in FY 2019.
