CRC, Directors Guild of America Co-Host Discussion with Directors of Captain America

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representatives Judy Chu (D-CA) and Howard Coble (R-NC), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Creative Rights Caucus, in conjunction with the Directors Guild of America (DGA), co-hosted a roundtable discussion with Emmy-Award winning directors Anthony and Joe Russo. The directors, who gained acclaim for their comedy series’ Arrested Development and Community, joined lawmakers, including Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), to talk about their latest film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and engage the lawmakers in a discussion about creativity and filmmaking. As members of the Directors Guild of America, the Russo brothers shared insights about directing, the role of the director, and the importance of protecting intellectual property.

“Our creative industries are some of the strongest and most dynamic sectors in our economy.  But the overwhelming challenge of online piracy continues to impede opportunities for creators,” said Congresswoman Chu. “Piracy costs American businesses $250 billion every year, and robs American workers of more than 750,000 jobs, which is why we must do all we can to put a stop to it.”

“Film is an American art form,” added Congressman Coble. “We need to do all that we can to protect it.”

The Congressional Creative Rights Caucus serves to educate Members of Congress and the general public about the importance of preserving and protecting the rights of the creative community in the U.S. Anthony and Joe Russo have been active members of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) since 2001.
