Veterans
It is our responsibility to return support for the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who took an oath to protect our country. I will advocate for improved health care services and benefits for veterans and increased support for their families and those of our service members. We have a solemn obligation to honor their valor and service to our nation.
Reentry to civilian life is a complicated process that nonetheless provides incredible opportunity for growth and development. I support job training and retraining programs, tax credits for businesses that hire veterans, and a streamlined employment process to fully take advantage of the unique skills veterans have to offer. I will continue to work to ensure our veterans have every opportunity to successfully participate in the digital economy.
In July, the House unanimously passed the Vet-Tec Act, which was part of a legislative package called the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017. I was the lead Democratic sponsor of the Vet-Tec Act, which was introduced by Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Washington, DC – Today, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the House of Representatives to provide military veterans greater access to apprenticeship training programs following their service. The Veteran Apprenticeship and Labor Opportunity Reform (VALOR) Act, led by Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Jodey Arrington (R-TX), and Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) would amend the law in an effort to streamline how non-federal apprenticeship programs based in more than one state are certified.
September 28, 2017 – Today, Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) honored a World War II ally of the United States, Chinese General Sun Li-jen. General Sun died at the age of 91 in 1990, but his legacy lives on among the Chinese American community.
Plunging his hand into an opened computer chassis, Vichon Ward sorted through a mess of colorful cables, fans and motherboards. The 28-year-old served eight years as a mechanic in the Air Force, repairing massive jet engines at military bases around the world — but before starting a tech training course here last month, he had never seen the inside of a computer.
