Today, the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA-02), released the following statement on the passing of the nation’s 41st president, George H.W. Bush:

“President George H.W. Bush was a patriot who dedicated his life to public service – first as a Navy pilot during World War II and then later as the 41st President of the United States. As president, he handled some of the most complicated and controversial world conflicts with grit and grace.

“President Bush’s decades-long service and sacrifice on and off the battlefield truly helped make our country great. The Congressional Black Caucus extends its heartfelt condolences to the Bush family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

“One of the things that makes us smile about this sad news — in addition to President Bush’s life and legacy — is that the 41st President will get to see the love of his life again.”
