Veterans

More than 26,000 veterans call our community home and I am proud to represent them in Congress.  In Staten Island and southern Brooklyn, veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War and the War on Terrorism have returned from service and deserve access to the important benefits they have earned.

I will fight to make sure that veterans have healthcare options in their own boroughs, and that those who were disabled through their service are able to get the support they need rather than a waiting line. My staff stands ready, willing and able to assist any veteran who is having trouble accessing their benefits, and we will hold the Veterans Administration (VA) accountable when their leadership fails to uphold the mission of “caring for him who shall have borne the battle.”

To that end, I voted to support the Veterans Healthcare Choice Improvement Act, which fills a $2.5 billion gap in the VA’s budget to avert the potential for medical services cuts and hospital closures.  The bill also provides up to $500 million for life-saving Hepatitis C treatments.

It is the least we can do for those who have sacrificed so much for our great nation.
