Education and Opportunity

As our economy relies more and more on intellectual capital, there is no better investment in America’s future than our education system.  I am a strong proponent of effective education and a competitive American workforce.  To adapt to a changing global economy, our system needs to focus on two goals.

First, the best way to realize our economy’s full potential is to ensure every child has an equal opportunity to succeed.  That requires giving educators the tools and resources they need to effectively teach our children, and to provide flexibility for local educators to adapt their curriculum to their classroom’s unique strengths.

Second, we need to maintain affordable access to higher education.  I recently finished paying off my loans from years ago; today, student debt is reaching crisis proportions.  At a time when Americans of all ages are struggling to make ends meet and secure gainful employment, we must do everything we can to ensure that new graduates and their parents are not saddled with mountains of debt that can take decades to repay.
