Life

The most basic right that we, as human beings, have is the right to life. I am strongly pro-life, and I support legislation that protects life. Furthermore, I oppose any legislation which provides federal funding for abortions, or encourages abortion as part of the family planning process, both here and abroad.

Throughout my time in Congress I have advocated for and cosponsored legislation protecting life. This year, I cosponsored and voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires that a baby who survives a failed abortion attempt will receive the same medical car as any other newborn. In 2017, I supported and the House passed two strong bills, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, establishing a uniform policy against taxpayer funding of abortions in all government programs; and the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, prohibiting abortions 20 weeks after conception.

We continue our work on other legislation, including two bills I am cosponsoring in the 115th Congress. The Life at Conception Act declares that the right to life is guaranteed by the Constitution and vested in each human being at all stages of life. The Conscience Protection Act bars discrimination or penalties for health care providers refusing to be involved in, or provide coverage for, abortion.

Working with President Trump, the pro-life movement has taken important steps. Among those is an executive order reinstituting the “Mexico City” policy that prohibits foreign nongovernmental organizations from receiving federal funding if they perform or promote abortion services.

I see it as my responsibility as a Member of Congress to advocate for policies that provide the utmost protection for the lives of the unborn. Rest assured, I will continue to advocate for the passage of legislation that protects the sanctity of life. The Declaration of Independence has the correct order: without life we can have neither liberty nor pursue happiness.
