As a staunch fiscal conservative, I believe Washington should respect hardworking taxpayers’ dollars by living within its means and balancing its budget. That’s why I have voted time and again against out-of-control Washington spending as well as for tough but common-sense conservative measures to get our fiscal house in order…measures like a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Governor Abbott put it best when he said: “Debt today becomes tomorrow’s taxes." Today, our debt stands at over $20 trillion - over $60,000 per person. Nothing less than our country’s future depends on Washington finally balancing the budget and paying down the debt.

Fighting Washington Spending

If you have ever visited my office you’ll see a sign that says, “It’s spending, stupid.” And that’s right.  We’re in fiscal trouble because of spending, not because Washington isn’t getting enough of your hard-earned dollars. As a fiscal conservative, I’ve proudly stood up to Washington’s big spending ways. For example:

  • Omnibus:  On May 3, 2017, I voted against the latest Omnibus spending bill (H.R. 244) because it spent too much. Plain and simple.

Bottom-line:  The taxpayers of Collin County want, need, and deserve a Washington that is fiscally responsible. You can rest assured I’ll continue to do everything within my power to get our country back on track.

Saving Taxpayer Dollars By Eliminating Waste, Fraud, and Abuse

In addition to my fiscally conservative voting record, I’ve introduced commonsense legislation targeting waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington.

115th Congress:

  • H.R.2149, Refundable Child Tax Credit Eligibility Verification Reform Act
This bill would stop illegals from getting the $1,000 refundable child tax credit by requiring tax filers to provide Social Security numbers.
    Savings:  $19.4 billion.
  • H.R. 2031: Social Security Disability Insurance and Unemployment Benefits Double Dip Elimination Act
This bill would prohibit individuals from getting disability and unemployment benefits at the same time.  Unemployment benefits are for those who can work while disability benefits are for those who can’t work.
  • H.R. 958, Wasteful EPA Programs Elimination Act
This bill would terminate or eliminate federal funding for 13 wasteful Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programs, would close all EPA field offices, and would require the EPA to lease or sell all underutilized properties.
    Savings:  $7.5 billion
  • H.R. 3483, EITC Eligibility Verification Act
This bill would stop individuals who are not authorized to work in the U.S. from claiming the earned income tax credit (EITC). Simply put, if you are not allowed to work in the US, you shouldn’t have earned income, and shouldn’t be able to claim the EITC.
