Montana Congressional App Challenge

 

Each fall, members of the United States Congress host a nationwide high school and middle school coding competition. The Congressional App Challenge is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the technological talent in the nation.

The Congressional App Challenge is open to all middle school and high school students in Montana. The winning app from Montana’s competition will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit will include the winning apps from all participating congressional districts throughout the country. The winning app is also featured on House.gov’s Congressional App Challenge page and at www.congressionalappchallenge.us/  

How to Participate:

Interested students should register at https://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/2018-student-registration/ with final versions of apps submitted no later than 10:00 am (MT) on October 15, 2018.

Winners will be announced in November 2018.

Congressional App Challenge rules and guidelines:

  • Students are only eligible to compete in districts that have signed up for the Challenge.
  • Any given student may only compete in one district.
  • Students may compete in either:
    • The district in which they reside, or
    • The district in which they attend school.
  • Students must be in middle or high school at the time of app submission.
    • Students may not participate after having graduated from high school.
  • There are no limits on the application’s theme or topic.
  • Students can use any programming language (C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, etc.) or “block code.”
  • Students may use any platform (PC, web tablet, robot, Raspberry Pi, smartphone, etc.)
  • Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to four.
    • Teams with five or more students are not eligible.
    • If competing as a team, at least two of the teammates must be eligible to compete within the district in which the team is submitting their app.

All entries must be original in concept, design, and execution and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws. Any entry that has been copied from an existing application that was created by someone other than the student is a violation of the competition rules and will not be accepted.
