Since 1792, the House Library has served as the official repository of Congressional Documents for the House of Representatives. To carry out the library's mission of providing legislative history and information to all patrons, the staff of the House Library preserve and make available a comprehensive collection of House documents that date from the 1st Congress to the present.
House Library Collection
The House Library is the sole source of many publications dating to the beginning of Congress as well as other reference materials. The Library’s extensive collection includes the following resources:
- More than 200,000 print volumes
- Digital databases of congressional information and news and media coverage
- Congressional publications detailing legislation, roll call votes, committee hearings, and Floor debates
- Journals and newspapers about Congress
- A wide range of legislative and legal reference works
- Books by Representatives
