As a leader on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Health – the epicenter of health care reform – I have worked with my colleagues to provide patients with the best possible health care system, encourage medical innovation and advanced research, support our medical practitioners, and create better pathways for new cures to find their way to patients.

Last Congress, an Energy and Commerce led health initiative called the 21st Century Cures Act was signed into law. This innovative and bipartisan package of health care legislation advances the discovery, development, and delivery of life-saving treatments and cures. It is an excellent example of what can happen when Republicans and Democrats come together for a common goal.

I believe that patients receive the best health care when their providers can counsel them on their health care choices and together the patient and provider decide on the best treatment plan, not when a government bureaucrat in Washington sets care standards. For this reason, I strongly support efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.

North Carolinians deserve a health care system that works for them, not a convoluted law that cripples our health care system by dramatically increasing costs, limiting access to good providers, and decreasing the quality of care.  Thankfully, we have an opportunity this Congress to replace this broken law with real reforms that put the focus back where it belongs: on the individual patient.

I’ve joined my colleagues in the House of Representatives to create a better way forward that fully repeals Obamacare and implements reforms that create a patient-centered system that strengthens the doctor-patient relationship, reduces cost, increases access, and allows American businesses to grow again.
