WASHINGTON – Congressman Blackburn has been working on data security and online privacy for over four years since she chaired the bi-partisan privacy working group. These two topics are crucial to so many of her constituents. While the internet has opened up so many new opportunities, it has also exposed gaps in both of these areas. Just as we have established physical privacy standards, we need online privacy standards.

Congressman Blackburn thanks Mark Zuckerberg for coming to speak to Congress. It is her hope that he and other Silicon Valley CEOs are open to working with Congress to set a standard for the entire internet ecosystem. The BROWSER Act, which Congressman Blackburn authored, is a bipartisan piece of legislation that will solve these problems.

Congressman Blackburn believes we have to use this time as a turning point. Tennesseans have the right to privacy, and they should feel safe, secure, and in control when they use the internet and other edge providers.
