I am, and always have been, pro-life. I believe every life, including the unborn, has dignity, and my voting record will always reflect that belief. I have consistently been supportive of banning abortion.
During my time in Congress, I have strongly opposed public funding for abortion, helping to introduce the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, which passed the House in 2017. That bill would establish a permanent government-wide ban on taxpayer funded abortions, including prohibiting abortion subsidies in the President’s healthcare law. Additionally, I cosponsored legislation President Trump signed that empowers states to defund Planned Parenthood.
While I believe life begins at conception – and have backed legislation that would define life as such - I was glad to be part of passing the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which would ban abortion after 20 weeks.
Other critical pro-life provisions I’m fighting to see enacted include:
- The Heartbeat Protection Act, which protects unborn children whose heartbeats can be detected since the heartbeat is a universally recognized sign of life.
- The Conscience Protection Act, which prohibits all levels of government from discriminating against healthcare providers based on their refusal to participate in abortion.
- The Investing for Tomorrow Act, which allows parents to name their unborn children as beneficiaries of 529 education savings plans.
- The Dismemberment Abortion Ban Act, which prohibits gruesome dismemberment abortions.
- A resolution disapproving of Washington, D.C.’s legalization of assisted suicide.
Additionally, I am a strong supporter of protecting traditional marriage and family. I believe marriage is defined as the special union between one man and one woman.
