Congresswoman Betty McCollum

Representing the 4th District of Minnesota

Art Competition

Each spring, the U. S. House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide arts competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the United States and in Minnesota's Fourth Congressional District. The 2018 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery," is open to all high school students either attending school in or residing in the Fourth Congressional District (Ramsey County and Washington County).

The winning entry from the Fourth District will be displayed as part of a national exhibit in the U.S. Capitol.  The winner will also receive two free airline tickets to Washington, D.C. to attend the exhibit opening in June. Entries by the runners-up will be displayed in my congressional offices in Saint Paul and in Washington, D.C. A panel of Fourth Congressional District Resident Artists have generously donated their time to judge the students’ art.

Artwork and entry forms may be mailed to or dropped off at my Saint Paul office located at 661 LaSalle Street, Suite 110, Saint Paul, MN 55114. Entries must be received no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2018.  Only one submission per student is allowed. Students are encouraged to include a written paragraph discussing their work. Complete guidelines and entry forms may be found below.

This year, the artwork of all students participating in the Congressional Art Competition will be displayed as part of the 2018 Spring Saint Paul Art Crawl presented by the Saint Paul Art Collective! The Congressional Art Competition show will run April 27-29 in the Pigs Eye Gallery located in the Bottlehouse building of the Schmidt Artist Lofts, 876 West 7th Street, Saint Paul, MN 55102.  On Monday, April 30, 2018 from 5-7 PM, I will host a reception in the Pig’s Eye Gallery for the student artists, their teachers, families and friends. The winner and runners-up of the Competition will be announced during the reception.

Complete guidelines and the competition submission form are available for download below. Please contact my St. Paul office at 651-224-9191 with any questions.
