Providing for the common defense of our country is the core function of the Federal Government. Since the founding of our nation, millions of Americans have proudly served and sacrificed in preservation of our democracy. It is our duty as a nation to ensure that our service members are properly and respectfully cared for when they return home.
It upsets me that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has been riddled with corruption and inefficiencies for so many years. Rest assured, during my time in Congress, I will continue to look for every opportunity to restore the integrity of the VA so our veterans can get the care they deserve. Those who have valiantly served our nation deserve only the best. I have supported several initiatives that will improve the lives of our veterans and the quality of the VA as a whole. The Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act expands and improves educational benefits for our veterans, while the HIRE Vets Act recognizes and incentivizes the employment of veterans in the public and private sector. Also, the Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act streamlines the process of removing bad employees from the VA.
