Internships are available in Senator Warner’s Washington, D.C. and Virginia state offices. Senator Warner values the engagement of individuals who are passionate about the political process. Preference will be given to candidates who at a minimum have completed their first year of college and who reside in Virginia or attend college in-state. To be eligible for an internship, an individual must have graduated from high school.

Intern in Washington D.C.

The opportunity to intern in our Capitol Hill office places you in the epicenter of policymaking. Here you will have the opportunity to witness firsthand how Congress makes decisions and represents constituent priorities in Washington. Your days will consist of drafting memos and conducting research for legislative staff, corresponding with Virginians who contact our office, and conducting front office and general administrative duties. You will gain a better understanding of the Senator’s priorities and the functions of his staff. Interning with our office in D.C. can be a stepping stone to a career in public service and many others; previous interns have gone on to work both inside and outside of the federal government.

In order to ensure a meaningful experience for our interns, we require a minimum commitment of 24 hours a week for spring and fall sessions. Summer internships are full time.

Intern in a Virginia State Office

Our state offices play an integral role in forming and maintaining the Senator’s relationship with constituents. The commonwealth is diverse and our five state offices allow the Senator to stay in touch with regional priorities. State office constituent services interns will have the opportunity to build their professional skill set by assisting staff with community outreach, preparing congressional inquiries, research on pressing constituent issues, front office duties, and basic office administration. Internships are available in our Roanoke, Norfolk, Richmond, and Vienna offices.
