WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Tom MacArthur urged President Trump to use Executive Action to direct the IRS to make an online tax calculator available by April 1, 2018. Congressman MacArthur introduced legislation in the House of Representatives that directs the same action called the Transparency for Taxpayers Act, but this same tool could be made available more quickly by an Executive Action.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman MacArthur urged Congress to protect and expand the educator expense deduction to $500 from $250. Under current law, educators can receive a deduction for supplies they purchase for the benefit of their students, instead of paying out-of-pocket. After successfully fighting to preserve the property tax deduction for his constituents, Congressman MacArthur continues to work to improve this bill on behalf of South Jersey residents.

Dear Governor-Elect Murphy, Senator Menendez, and Senator Booker,
Instead of working to deliver real tax relief to New Jerseyans who deserve it, you have all decided to embark on a dishonest campaign intended to mischaracterize the tax reform legislation working its way through Congress for partisan political gain.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tom MacArthur sent a letter to Governor-Elect Phil Murphy inviting him to a substantive discussion on tax policy, after the Governor-Elect questioned the Congressman’s efforts to provide tax relief for New Jerseyans.

Dear Governor-Elect Murphy,
WASHINGTON –Today, Congressman Tom MacArthur voted in favor of The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which is the first meaningful overhaul of America’s tax code in 31 years. He specifically discussed his successful efforts to restore the deductibility of property taxes, which led to a compromise that benefits all property owners in South Jersey.
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom MacArthur released the following statement regarding the President’s Address to the Joint Session of Congress:
South Jersey families and small business owners go through it every year - wading through confusing forms, sifting through 12 months of bank documents and receipts, and crossing our fingers that we don't make any mistakes. According to one independent study presented to Congress, Americans collectively spend more than 6 billion hours and $160 billion to prepare and file their taxes on an annual basis. In a place like New Jersey, the dread is compounded by the knowledge that we are forced to endure one of the highest tax burdens in the entire country.
Washington, DC — Aggressive and threatening phone calls by criminals impersonating IRS agents remain a major threat to taxpayers.
The IRS has seen a surge of these phone scams as scam artists threaten police arrest, deportation, license revocation and other things. The IRS reminds taxpayers to guard against all sorts of con games that arise during any filing season.
