Heart Health
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the United States. That accounts for 1 in 4 U.S. deaths, making heart disease the leading cause of death for American men and women. Incidence of heart ailments among African Americans are disproportionately high, with more than 10 percent suffering from heart disease and 37 percent suffering from hypertension.
The CBC Health Braintrust is committed to advancing legislative, medical, and grant funding initiatives that combat heart disease and promote heart health in the African American community.
