Healthy Communities

Creating healthy communities is vital to our long-term well-being. One way to achieve this is through encouraging active lifestyles. Outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, and jogging are simple ways to stay fit and healthy while reducing the risk of obesity, heart disease and other illnesses.

A component of creating healthier communities is ensuring a safe and clean environment for healthy activities. However, minority and low-income communities are more likely to be targeted for illegal dumping of hazardous industrial waste, causing cancer, asthma, and a host of other illnesses. Toxic waste dumping in underserved communities poses a threat to the safety and health of 49 million Americans nationwide.

The CBC Health Braintrust supports federal policies that promote a clean, toxin-free environment that promotes healthier communities.
