Davis Statement on Passage of CR, Debt Limit Increase and Hurricane Aid

The Congress sent the President legislation today preventing a government shutdown by lifting the debt ceiling and adopting a continuing resolution funding the government into December.  Attached to the bill was initial funding for individuals and small businesses impacted by hurricane Harvey.  It is understood that there will be a need for additional aid for hurricane victims all along the Gulf coast due to Harvey, Irma and potentially other severe storms which may make landfall in the U.S.

I strongly support this legislation and understand that the President will sign it into law.  Now we need to go to work on the long list of urgent tasks before the Congress including a progressive budget, passing the Dream Act, ensuring Obamacare will be funded appropriately and re-authorizing several critical programs including the Federal Aviation Administration and extending funds for health insurance for about 9 million children.  The Black Caucus and the Progressive Caucus will be introducing a forward looking budget tackling the most critical issues we confront as a nation paid for in a sustainable, just and fair manner.

and the Progressive Caucus budget can be found at https://cpc-grijalva.house.gov/the-peoples-budget-a-roadmap-for-the-resistance-fy-2018/

These budgets will put millions of people back to work by investing in infrastructure, provide quality health care, childcare, schooling, housing and retirement for everyone, protect the environment and address the crisis we face due to global climate change, revise our tax system to one based on fairness, equity and ability to pay, reform our criminal justice system and protect our election system, implements comprehensive immigration reform, and promote international peace and stability while reducing the deficit.  It is my hope these plans will be read, discussed and disseminated widely in the coming weeks.
