A thriving economy builds stable neighborhoods. I am a firm believer in giving our cities the necessary access to capital and investment in order to facilitate prosperous centers of commerce. Investment is one of the anchors that drives individuals to a neighborhoods.
Small Businesses are the engines that drive our economy. As a member of the Small Business Committee, and specifically in my role as Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Economic, Growth, and Capital Access I know firsthand the critical role small business owners play in our economy. As a Co-Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Economic Development and Wealth Creation Task Force, I am proud of the work we are doing in terms of investing in education and job training to help our neighborhoods flourish and succeed.
This Congress I introduced H.R. 1702, the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) Improvement Act of 2017. The Small Business Development Centers Improvement Act of 2017 is a bipartisan bill that amends the Small Business Act to improve the SBDC program nationwide. The bill specifically amends the Small Business Act to provide a variety of services including: grants, financial assistance, loans, export assistance, subcontracting opportunities on federal contracts to specific business owners, and other critical services to our small businesses.

Dear President Trump and Secretary Purdue:
President Donald J. Trump has signed into law legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and James Risch (R-ID), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee and Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) aimed at helping small businesses safeguard their intellectual property with expanded education on obtaining and protecting patents. The Small Business Innovation Protection Act will build upon existing outreach programs run by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the U.S.
In cooperation with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the National Urban League launched a multi-city Jobs and Justice tour. During the tour, the National Urban League and its local affiliates will lead a series of town hall discussions about policies that will increase the upward social mobility of African-American families, and help ensure equal protection under the law. The town hall discussions will also focus on how African-Americans can use their voice and vote to change their communities and the country.
Today, in celebration of National Small Business Week Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County), Ranking Member on the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access; Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (NY- 7), Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee; and women small business owners and entrepreneurs joined together at The Enterprise Center in West Philadelphia for a vibrant roundtable discussion about the ways our small businesses’ can increase access to capital and credit.
Today, Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County) participated in the House Agriculture Committee Farm Bill 2018 Markup and forcefully urged the GOP majority to end their assault on the poor, elderly, veterans, and children and protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly referred to as SNAP.
Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County) joined with Senator Bob Casey to highlight their strong support for the continued funding of the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), and the MBDA Business Centers which are critical to the future success of our local entrepreneurs and business owners. The MBDA supports our small and minority-owned businesses that create jobs and drive investment into our neighborhoods by allowing our entrepreneurs grow, innovate, and prosper.
Today, Congressman Bob Brady (PA-01), Congressman Brendan Boyle (PA-13), Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02), Mayor Jim Kenney, City Council President Darrell L. Clarke, Councilwoman Jannie L. Blackwell and Sister Mary Scullion joined together at Project HOME’s Ruth Williams House at the Gene & Marlene Epstein Building, to highlight the need for federal funding to support critical safety net programs including: affordable housing, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and education programs that are under attack in the Trump budget.
This week, Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County) released the following the House passage of FY 2018 spending bill.
