I strongly believe that the United States’ dependence on foreign sources of energy is one of our greatest national security concerns. We cannot afford to halt or discourage domestic exploration and development of our energy resources. It is critical that we implement policies that support our economic and security interests.

I am a strong proponent of an “all of the above” approach that includes natural gas, clean coal, and American-made oil, as well as alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, hydropower, and nuclear. I am committed to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle on a comprehensive energy plan that supports our economic and security interests while also exploring, developing, and producing domestic energy in an environmentally responsible manner.

Not only will this approach create new American jobs, it will strengthen our national security, lower energy prices, and improve our energy independence. For instance, Ohio’s investment in domestic energy has resulted in Ohio possessing more wind-related manufacturing facilities than any other state, providing our economy with hundreds of good-paying jobs in the energy sector.

This Congress, I am cosponsoring H.R. 1090, the Technologies for Energy Security Act of 2017. This legislation would extend and modify the tax credits for residential energy efficient property and investments in energy property. In addition, it would extend tax credits for investments in energy property that include renewable energy such as solar, wind, and thermal energy construction.

In the 114th Congress, I supported S. 2012, the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016. This legislation would have advanced energy infrastructure development, modernization, and protection, as well as enhance domestic energy security and promote energy efficiency.
