I am proud that Ohio is home to over 7,000 active duty military personnel, over 28,000 members of the Reserves and National Guard, over 25,000 military civilians, and almost 900,000 veterans.

In an increasingly dangerous world, it is critical that the United States maintains a strong, robust military capable of protecting our national security and furthering our interests around the world. Given the nuclear threats posed by North Korea and Iran, the ever present dangers posed by terrorism, and the growing risks of cyberwarfare, the United States must maintain its military readiness to secure peace through strength.

One of my most important responsibilities as your Member of Congress is to ensure that our Armed Forces have the resources they need to maintain our military readiness and remain the world’s premier and best-equipped fighting force. As we evaluate proposals to reduce our debt, we must ensure that we do not cut core defense needs or fail to properly compensate those who sacrifice so much to fight for our freedoms.

This Congress, I have cosponsored several bills to support our military and protect our national security interests. Some of these bills are:

  • H.R. 1698, the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act. This legislation would hold Iran accountable for testing ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons and impose sanctions against the Iranian government or any entity supporting its ballistic missile program.
  • H.Res. 92, a resolution condemning North Korea’s development of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) and urging the full enforcement of all sanctions against North Korea, as well as the implementation of new sanctions as necessary.
