Eligibility to Register to Vote in West Virginia

To be qualified to register to vote in West Virginia, a person must:

• Be a citizen of the United States;

• Be a legal resident of West Virginia and the county where they are applying to register;

• Reside at their registered legal address for at least thirty (30) days before the election to be considered eligible to vote. This thirty-day requirement also applies to elections in municipalities, barring other language in municipal charters; and

• Be at least eighteen years of age (or seventeen years of age if the voter will be eighteen by the next general election).
