Standing Committee Elections

NOTICE TO MEMBERS OF THE CONGRESSIONAL

DAILY PRESS GALLERIES

Nominating petitions for three members of the Standing Committee of Correspondents are now in order.

The five-member Standing Committee issues credentials for daily news reporters covering Congress and sets policy for the operations of the Senate Press Gallery and the House of Representatives Press Gallery.

Nominating petitions must be submitted in writing and signed by at least 15 credentialed members of the daily congressional press galleries.

Nominees should present one original signed petition to either the House or Senate Press Gallery director. Copies of the nominating petitions will be posted in the House and Senate press galleries to notify the membership.

All nominating petitions will be removed from gallery notice boards by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, the eve of the convening of the first session of the 116th Congress, which is set to occur at noon on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

The election, if needed, will take place in the Senate Press Gallery on Thursday, January 17, 2019.
