Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day, which is observed each year on November 11th:

“On Veterans Day, Americans across the country honor the service and courage of the brave men and women in uniform who protected and defended our country, our democracy and our ideals.  This year, we commemorate 100 years since America entered World War I, 75 years since the Bataan Death March, and 14 years since the invasion of Iraq.  In each of these theaters and beyond, our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, National Guardsmen and Reservists have given the last full measure of devotion to our nation.

“Veterans, servicemembers, their families and caregivers deserve more than our thanks and gratitude.  These heroes deserve our recognition of their selfless sacrifice and our unwavering, unflinching commitment both while they serve and when they come home.  We must uphold our bedrock vow to all who have served to defend the full promise of the American dream, for which they have given so much to preserve.

“We reaffirm today and every day our solemn pledge: just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we will leave no veteran behind at home.  We vow to always remember and honor our veterans and their families and will work day in and day out to ensure their heroism is never forgotten.”
