Washington, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi praised Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton’s choice to become the Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management.

Norton chose Johnnie Burton, now the Minerals Management Service Director, to act in place of the departing Rebecca Watson as the Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management, until a permanent replacement can be found.
“I worked with Johnnie in the Wyoming Legislature and have noted her excellent work since joining the Department of Interior in 2002. Johnnie has vast experience in this area and the skills to practically apply that knowledge,” Enzi said. “Johnnie is a good choice to fill this position.”

The Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management is tasked with guiding policies for and providing oversight to the Bureau of Land Management, the Minerals Management Service and the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement.

Burton is the former head of the Wyoming Department of Revenue and she has also been the president of oil and gas related companies that did work in Wyoming.
