Enzi praises Bush’s pick for ambassador

Wyoming native to go through confirmation process

November 1, 2005

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., praised President Bush’s choice of a Wyoming native to be the United States Ambassador to the West African Republic of Burkina Faso.

President Bush chose Jeanine E. Jackson, of Sheridan, who most recently served as the Management Coordinator for the establishment of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Jackson will be in charge of the U.S. embassy in the capital of Ouagadougou if confirmed.

“I have known Jeanine for decades and am proud that a Wyoming native has been nominated for this position,” Enzi said. “I have visited Africa numerous times and have seen first hand the important role our ambassadors play on the ground to strengthen relations between the U.S. and the nations of Africa. I believe our neighbors across the Atlantic will welcome Jeanine and I look forward to confirming her nomination.”

Jackson is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and recently completed 30 years as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. She has served her country in Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Switzerland, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Kenya and Afghanistan.

Enzi, who along with Jackson graduated from Sheridan High School, plans to introduce her when her nomination goes before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Once the committee approves the nomination it will go before the full Senate.
