Art Competition
Congratulations to Cass Lake Bena High School junior Arnold Kingbird, winner of the 2017 Congressional Art Competition. Arnold’s artwork entitled “Modern Northwest Coast Designs” will be displayed along with other winners from around the nation in the U.S. Capitol walkway, where thousands of people pass every day between the House Office Buildings and the Capitol Building.
8th District Congressional Art Competition
The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition. Each spring, as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives, I sponsor a district-wide high school arts competition to recognize and encourage the amazing and talented youth we have in Minnesota's 8th District. If you are in high school and live in Minnesota's 8th District, send us a high-resolution photograph or scanned image of your artwork and enter to win! The over-all winner will be displayed for one year in the halls of the U.S. Capitol, and will receive a trip for themselves and a parent or guardian to come to Washington for the unveiling on June 29th.
Note: Please do not send us your original piece, only a high-resolution photo or scanned image of it!
You may submit:
- Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
- Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
- Collage
- Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
- Mixed Media
- Computer Generated Art
- Photography
All participant paperwork and accompanying works of art must be submitted by April 28, 2018.
Students should not send in their original art selection, but instead a high-resolution photo or scanned image of it. Those wishing to participate should e-mail a high quality photo of their art to jeff.anderson@mail.house.gov or to Congressional Art Competition, Office of Rep. Rick Nolan, Duluth Technology Village, 11 East Superior Street, Suite 125, Duluth, MN 55802. A winner will be chosen by May 5th.
All entries must be your own concept, design, and execution. Please remember that these will be framed and hung on the wall, so artwork that fits the dimensions of 28 inches x 28 inches works best.
