(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6157, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which included a bipartisan amendment offered by Congressman Rick W. Allen (GA-12) and Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08). The amendment allocates $10,000,000 to the Defense POW (Prisoner of War)/Missing Persons Accounting Agency to assist in identifying unclaimed remains that have been missing since the Korean conflict, and is completely offset by reducing spending in other accounts. The Allen/Raskin Amendment passed with unanimous bipartisan support.
(SILVER SPRING, MD) – Following their visit to the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland yesterday, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) announced plans for a public forum on election security in Rockville, Maryland on May 22nd. Raskin serves on the Committee on House Administration, which oversees the EAC.
On Thursday evening, during a conference of the House Judiciary Committee, Democrats introduced a resolution of inquiry into Trump’s ties to Russia, only to be summarily cut off by GOP chairman Bob Goodlatte.
Democrats on the committee were so outraged that they proceeded to walk out of the meeting.
The Democratic members then proceeded to announce their boycott on a live Facebook stream posted by Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – A group of House Democrats, including Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08), today wrote to the FBI and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requesting that they suspend White House Senior Advisor and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’s security clearance, citing his admission that he “omitted” required details about meetings with foreign officials from an FBI questionnaire.
Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) has released the following statement on last night’s military strikes in Syria:
The use of chemical weapons on civilians is an atrocity, a nightmare, and a human rights violation evoking outrage across the globe. President Assad is now a repeat offender, having trained chemical weapons on thousands of his own people back in 2013 and slaughtering them continuously ever since. An estimated 470,000 people have been killed in the Syrian Civil War, and millions of desperate people have been displaced by it.
