RECENT VOTESH.R. 3162: Children's Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act of 2007August 1, 2007 On August 1, 2007 the House passed H.R. 3162: Children's Health and Medicare Protection (CHAMP) Act of 2007. This legislation reauthorizes the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), providing health care to 11 million children. Of that number, 6 million are currently receiving care. H.R. 3162 will provide coverage to an additional 5 million children who are currently eligible for SCHIP but are not enrolled in the program. The number of uninsured children in our nation is heartbreaking and ensuring that the federal government does everything it can to reverse this situation is one of Congress' top priorities. This legislation protects the health of millions of children a year, providing them access to the health care they deserve. The President has threatened to veto this bill. I voted YES. The legislation passed the House.
