Congressional App Challenge

The 2018 Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a competition designed to engage students from across the country in computer science and coding. More than ever before, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills, including computer science, are vital to compete in the workforce, to build a culture of innovation and to spur economic growth. The competition is intended to promote student engagement in STEM fields and to encourage them to pursue skills that will serve them throughout their careers. Students in middle or high school are encouraged to compete by creating and exhibiting an app for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

Every year, the CAC is open to all middle or high school students who live in or attend school in the Fifth Congressional District of Indiana. Students who have already graduated high school are not eligible to participate.

An expert panel of judges evaluate each submission based on the following criteria:

  • Quality of the idea;
  • Implementation of the idea; and
  • Demonstrated excellence of coding and programming skills.

The winner of the Fifth District of Indiana’s CAC will be featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol Building along with other honorees from across the county.

More information about the challenge can be found here.
