    1/ Massachusetts has a long & proud history w/ the House Rules Committee. MA Congressman Tip O’Neill Jr. served on this committee before becoming Speaker. He appointed my friend & mentor, Joe Moakley, to the committee, where he later became chairman.

    This morning I was named Chairman-designate of the House Ways & Means Committee. I am grateful to my colleagues for trusting me w this responsibility. Taking on this new role is a true honor, one that I take extremely seriously & have worked toward throughout my time in Congress.

    As I learned from Paul, you don’t arrive as a member of Congress once you’re elected - you’ve earned the right to become one. TY ’s for illustrating what an honor it’s been to serve & shape the life of , the Commonwealth, &the American people.

    After carving out her own turf, is closing the Tsongas family loop on Washington.

    The Wild & Scenic designation will help preserve & protect the historic waterways & make them eligible to receive federal funding for further conservation efforts.

    My bill, the Nashua River Wild & Scenic River Act, would designate the river & two of its tributaries, the Squannacook & Nissitissit Rivers, as components of the national Wild & Scenic Rivers System.

    Today, we honor those that we lost at the tragic attack on , an attack that my father, an officer in the Air Corps, was so fortunate to survive 77 yrs ago. TY to those who have answered - and continue to answer - the call to serve so bravely on our behalf.

    I was saddened to learn of the passing of President Bush this morning. As a nation we are indebted to him & his wife, Barbara, for their abiding willingness to put service to our country at the heart of their long & distinguished lives.

    I had the privilege of joining Captain Hudner & his family & friends for the naming ceremony of the U.S.S. Thomas Hudner in 2012. The Commonwealth & the entire nation are in his debt.

    A U.S. Navy destroyer that will be named for Thomas Hudner, a Navy pilot from Mass. who received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Korean War. The ship is open to visitors in Boston this week:
