The best government program is a job. We have many successful programs in America that help single parents and other low-income individuals get back on their feet, but there is more we can do. This is why I work as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee to further improve our country’s welfare programs.

As part of my efforts, I sponsor the HAND UP Act, which would allow states to develop their own anti-poverty programs, rather than rely on the several disparate national programs. This means states can take control of their welfare programs to provide focused policies that help get people into good paying jobs. I also sponsor Work Opportunity Tax Credit Permanency, which provides tax credits to companies who hire workers on welfare programs, such as TANF and SNAP.
