Castro Statement on Japanese Prime Minister Abe's Visit to Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Co-Chair of the U.S.-Japan Caucus in the House and member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and Armed Services Committee, today issued the following statement recognizing Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe’s visit to Washington, D.C.:

“This year marks the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and seven decades of peace between America and Japan. Today, our two countries are close, critical allies and partners in everything from energy development, to military cooperation, to technological development. Prime Minister Abe’s visit to Washington this week is a historic one – he will be the first Japanese Prime Minister ever to address a Joint Session of Congress. I look forward to our countries’ continued friendship and collaboration as we work toward common goals including regional stability in the Asia-Pacific, global health, nuclear nonproliferation, and economic growth.”
