As 2018 quickly comes to a close, everyone’s attention turns towards 2019 and what the new year can mean for them. It is a chance for a fresh start; to set new goals, new priorities, and tackle new challenges. The same is true as we begin the 116th Congress. Read more

In the late 1830s, an Ohioan who would go on to be a Civil War hero and President of the United States was appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point. There was just one issue: he did not know that his father had submitted his name for consideration. Read more

The 15th Congressional District spans from the suburbs of Columbus to Clinton County in the Southwest region, and to the foothills of Appalachia, and it is full of remarkable communities with untapped potential. I am proud to represent each and every one of them, and to pursue policies that will tap into the best natural resource we have: our people. This time last year, historic tax reform, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, was signed into law. This legislation had one simple goal: improving the lives... Read more

  • Bring Civility to the Thanksgiving Table

One year ago, I joined Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (D-OH) and former Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) to participate in the “Setting the Table for Civility” program, organized by the Faith and Politics Institute and the National Institute for Civil Discourse. During the conversation, we talked about how we were able to work together as Representatives for Central Ohio, despite coming from different backgrounds and not agreeing on every issue. We talked about how the rise of social media and the anonymity it allows has led to a breakdown in civil discourse. And we talked about the importance of bringing civility to the forefront of discussion for our colleagues on Capitol Hill. Read more

At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month, 100 years ago, World War I ended with Germany signing an armistice agreement with the allied forces. Once thought to be “the war to end all wars,” World War I took the lives of nine million soldiers, in addition to millions of innocent civilians. Read more

Great things take time. It is frustrating truth for many Americans, including myself. However, during my time as your Representative, I have learned that when people are willing to come together and persevere, we can deliver results for the 15th District, and the nation. Take, for example, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum that opened just last weekend. This is a project that has been years in the making. When the decision was made to replace the Franklin County Veterans Memorial, a yea... Read more

  • There is No One-Size-Fits-All Solution

No matter the issue at hand, be it the opioid epidemic, school safety, or economic development, one thing is very clear: what works in one community may not work in another. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. As your Representative in Congress, I want to help empower communities to tackle the problems they face every day, on their own terms. That’s why I work to bring federal dollars back to the 15th District in the form of grants to organizations that have a first-hand understanding of th... Read more

As the father of two kids, I understand the importance of supporting our schools in order to provide opportunities for every student – regardless of zip code or household income. I also believe it is important for education programs to be flexible enough to serve the needs of each individual community. A strong educational foundation starts from the very beginning, and that’s why I’m working in Congress to support early childhood education. Read more

In 1989, the first Recovery Month was recognized – then called Treatment Works! Month. In 1989, 5,035 people in the United States lost their lives to unintentional drug overdose. Nearly 30 years ago, it become evident that people needed to be informed about the tools available to help them reclaim their lives from the grips of addiction. And now, in 2017, it has never been more apparent just how far we still have to go: overdoses claimed the lives of 72,306 Americans last year. National Recovery... Read more
