H.R. 3300:  The Half in Ten Act of 2011

  • The Half in Ten Act of 2011 will establish the Federal Interagency Working Group on Reducing Poverty.  The Working Group will develop and implement a national plan to reduce poverty in half in ten years while working to eliminate extreme poverty, child poverty and the historic disparity in poverty rates in communities of color.

H.R. 589:  Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act of 2011

  • This bill would extend unemployment compensation to individuals by adding an additional 14 weeks of benefits to the existing Tier I of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, the temporary federal program first created in 2008 as a response to the recession. (Introduced 2/9/2011)

H.R. 4379: Women's Option to Raise Kids Act

  • The WORK Act would amend current TANF law to provide states the option to maintain a safety net for poor parents.  Low-income parents could receive job training or search for work, or they could raise their children until they are school-aged without fear of being pushed deeper into poverty. (introduced 4/18/2012)

H.R. 4144: Strengthening Economic Development Through Affordable Housing Act of 2012

  • H.R. 4144 amends the State Small Business Credit Initiative Act of 2010 to allow states participating in the state small business credit initiative to provide funds to community housing development organizations. (introduced 3/6/2012)

H.R. 3226:  Restore the TANF Emergency Contingency Fund to strenthen support for our Nation's jobless workers

  • H.R. 3226 reestablishes the Emergency Contingency Fund for State Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Programs for the purpose of grants to states by the Secretary of the Treasury related to: (1) increases in TANF caseloads, (2) increased expenditures for non-recurrent short term benefits, and (3) increased expenditures for subsidized employment.

H.R. 2151: Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Act of 2011

  • H.R. 2151 directs the Secretary of the Treasury, through the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), to establish a Community Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Matching Grant Program (VITA grant program) for the development, expansion, or continuation of volunteer tax preparation programs to assist low-income taxpayers and members of underserved populations. (introduced 6/13/2011)

H.R. 1623: The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Assets for Independence Reauthorization Act

  • H.R. 1623 amends the Assets for Independence Act, which provides for demonstration projects designed to provide individuals and families of limited means with an incentive to save a portion of their earned income and thereby accumulate assets, increase their economic self-sufficiency, and stabilize such families and the communities in which they live. (introduced 4/15/2011)

H. R. 1465: Assuring You Uniform Dietary Assistance (AYUDA) Act of 2011

  • H.R. 1465 amends the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to treat the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in the same manner as Guam is treated. (introduced 4/8/2011)
