 is the senior United States Senator from the State of Alabama.

 
He was first elected to the Senate in 1986 and is currently serving in his sixth term.
 
Senator Shelby is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations. He also serves as a senior member on the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee and the Committee on Rules and Administration. Additionally, Senator Shelby is on the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
 
Prior to his election in the United States Senate, Senator Shelby served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and eight years in the Alabama legislature. He is a fifth generation Alabamian and a graduate of University of Alabama’s undergraduate and law programs.
