Welcome to Washington, D.C.! Our nation’s capital is a fascinating place to visit for people of all ages.

To help you plan your trip I have included links to some of the most popular area attractions and information about requesting specific tours. All the tours described below are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. While in town, you can use the Metro or a Circulator bus to get around the city.

Tours

With advance notice, congressional tours can be requested for the Capitol Building, the Pentagon, and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. With the exception of the Capitol Building, please be advised that tours are limited and should be requested at least three months ahead of time. For visists during peak tourist season in Washington - around the holidays and between the months of March and August - we reccomend that you request tours six months in advance. While we can never guarantee tickets for any tour, we will do our best to provide you with the tours you have requested.

The Capitol Building

Tours of the U.S. Capitol are arranged through the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The CVC offers guided group tours Monday through Saturday, Please make all group requests three to four weeks in advance. If you prefer, our office is happy to schedule staff-led tours of the Capitol Building departing from my office Monday through Friday at either 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Please plan to come directly to our office, 133 Hart Senate Office Building, unless our Tour Coordinator tells you otherwise. No food or drink is allowed on the tour. Tours usually last around 60 – 90 minutes, with the option of going up to the house and senate galleries, if they are open. Cameras are allowed in the Capitol during your tour. 

For security reasons, staff-led tours are for groups of fifteen or less. All staff-led tour requests can be made by contacting my office at 202-224-5344.

The White House

Requests for public tours of the White House must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to three months in advance. Requests can be submitted up to three months in advance and no less than 21 days in advance. These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m Friday and Saturday (excluding federal holidays), and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available.  Due to high demand in the spring and summer seasons, requests need to be submitted months in advance.  You will find out if the tour has been approved approximately two to three weeks before the scheduled date of the tour. All White House tours are free of charge. Please note that White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation.



The FBI Headquarters

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Headquarters will open for public tours in July 2017— The FBI Experience! This reopening has been highly anticipated since The Headquarters Tour closed following the events of September 11, 2001.  The FBI Experience features a newly renovated facility, with updated content, objects, and multimedia interactive displays depicting the importance of this mission to all who visit. Visitors will learn about how the FBI’s operational and support units function both in the field and at Headquarters. Many objects from notable investigative cases are on display to the public for the very first time.

Reservations for public tours of the FBI Headquarter must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to 5.5 months to three weeks in advance of the tour. This self-guided tour is available from Monday through Friday at the following times: 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm and are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis. * Guests must be either CS Citizens, by birth or naturalization, or US Green Card holders (Legal Permanent Residents i.e. no foreign nationals) which you will provide to our tour coordinator over the phone to ensure that your identity is protected. There are five tour slots each day for the entire walking tour that will last approximately 90 minutes long. Tours are limited to 50 guests. You should plan to arrive 45 minutes prior to your tour for security and if you would like to visit the gift shop. The opportunity to visit the gift shop is only available at the beginning of tour. You will not be allowed to go back in afterwards.

Prohibited Items

  • Food, beverages, any pointed objects, aerosol containers, guns, ammunition, fireworks, electric stun guns, mace, martial arts weapons/devices, or any knives, among other items.
  • Strollers.
  • Cell phone use: cellphones are allowed in. You just can't use it upon entry, they much be in airplane mode or turned off.

*Note: This tour is not recommended for small children.Elements of the tour including photos displayed, contain graphics that may be alarming for children of young age. the tour is rated PG.

The Pentagon


Located just across the Potomac from Washington D.C. in Arlington, Virginia, the Pentagon serves as a symbol of the strength of the American defense establishment. Pentagon tours are free, but by reservation only. Tours are conducted between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday. They are not conducted on weekends or federal holidays. 

Please keep in mind that for security reasons, tours cannot be scheduled less than fourteen days in advance.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Bureau of Engraving and Printing tours allow the general public a rare glimpse at one of the most intriguing processes in American history: the production of our currency. Free public tours are offered every fifteen minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., and between 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Bureau offers extended hours until 3:45p.m. between April-August.

Tickets are required during peak season (March-August); these tickets can be ordered at the Bureau's ticket booth located at Raoul Wallenberg Place. The ticket booth opens at 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, but lines form early and we recommend arriving at the booth no later than 7:00 a.m. All tickets are for same day use. From September through February (non-peak season) no tickets are required for tours of the Bureau.

School group tours (fifty people maximum) require a reservation and are only offered between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

Government Printing Office

For over 150 years, the U.S Government Printing Office has worked to help share our Nation’s history with the American people. At the heart of the organization is the goal of “Keeping America Informed,” which is accomplished by providing important government publishing and distribution services.  Come witness history in the making at the GPO, one of the largest information processing, printing, and dispersal facilities in the world.

Tours of the GPO are available from June 4th through August 29th on Tuesdays and Thursdays at either 10:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. If you are interested in a tour please contact my Washington, D.C. office and we would be happy to help you out.
