My number one priority is not only continuing to grow our economy, but ensuring that we again create good jobs that pay workers a fair and livable wage.

From making college affordable, to strengthening our nation’s infrastructure, to growing our diverse, high-tech, innovative and clean energy industries, I remain deeply committed to strengthening New Mexico’s middle class, which is central to a thriving economy.

We must restore the basic bargain on which this country was built – that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead. I won’t stop fighting until every New Mexican who wants a job can find one.

  • Udall, Heinrich Secure Major Wins for NM Farmers, Ranchers, Dairies, and Tribes in Farm Bill

    WASHINGTON - Today, U.S. Senators Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) joined their colleagues in the Senate to pass the final 2018 Farm Bill – major legislation that will send needed assistance to New Mexico farmers and ranchers, and support every county in the state by protecting the farm safety net and basic social services, while also making strategic investments in broadband access, clean drinking water, rural development, telemedicine, and more. The Farm Bill, which serves as the federal government's primary tool to provide agricultural funding and set food policy for the next five years, passed the Senate by a vote of 87-13.   • Heinrich Cosponsors Bill To Grow Workforce In Rural Communities

    U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is an original cosponsor of the Invest in America Act, legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) to create competitive grant programs to expand the workforce, modernize training tools, and promote job creation-especially in rural communities. The bill would establish two complementary grant programs through the Department of Labor to assist local and regional entities plan and implement efforts to support job creation and workforce training in areas experiencing economic difficulties. Read More

  • Heinrich Introduces Legislation to Require New Income Growth Data Alongside Quarterly GDP Reports

    Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee, introduced the Measuring Real Income Growth Act of 2018, which would require the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) to report how economic growth is distributed across the income spectrum.  This data would help to put quarterly GDP growth numbers in context, as it would provide a breakdown of the economic benefits seen by individuals across different segments of the economy.  In short, this bill would provide policymakers with metrics that better reflect the economic experiences of all Americans, not just top income earners. Read More
