Dec 21, 2018

met with-then Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey in January before he was confirmed to be the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Service.

In honor of the reauthorization of the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting program that I introduced with Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, I met with actress Jennifer Garner and other advocates to discuss the program's benefits for families across America.

I paid tribute to 93 veterans from Eastern Iowa who were visiting the memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice, including the World War II, Vietnam and Korean War memorials, as well as the Arlington National Cemetery, as part of the Honor Flight program.

I greeted witnesses Amanda Nguyen and actor Terry Crews ahead of the Judiciary Committee hearing I chaired on the Survivors’ Bill of Rights, a 2016 law I led that secured new rights for survivors of sexual assault.

I visited the Iowa State Fair this year where I celebrated 4-H day by thanking volunteers.

I greeted over 65 Habitat for Humanity volunteers working to restore Marshalltown after it was devastated by a tornado. They helped Iowans rebuild after losing everything.

As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I led the confirmation process for Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was confirmed by the Senate on October 6, 2018.

I had a great meeting with leaders of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association. This year, I led efforts to put pressure on the EPA to stop issuing “hardship waivers” to obligated refiners as well as make the waiver process more transparent and highlight the importance of the RFS to President Trump.

I gave my Instagram and Twitter followers an insider look at farming operations and tracked the progression of the corn crop grown on the Grassley family farm in New Hartford, Iowa from planting through harvest. #CornWatch

I completed my 38th annual #99CountyMeetings, with at least one Q&A in every county, every year. I began my 2018 meetings in Harrison County in January and finished in Clarke County in September.

The USS Sioux City was commissioned on November 17, 2018 in Annapolis, Maryland. This is the first warship commissioned at the Naval Academy. I am proud to have the USS Sioux City protecting our nation at sea.

Senator Joni Ernst, my friend and colleague, was elected to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference. She will serve Senate Republicans superbly, just as she serves Iowans.

Congress passed the First Step Act, which I cosponsored with Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois. This bill will reduce crime, strengthen faith in our justice system, support law enforcement and give thousands of people a better shot at living a good life.
