Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs
The Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, headed by Assistant Secretary A. Wess Mitchell, develops and implements U.S. foreign policy in Europe and Eurasia. The Bureau promotes U.S. interests in the region on issues such as international security, NATO, coordination with the European Union and other regional organizations, support for democracy, human rights, civil society, economic prosperity, counterterrorism, and nonproliferation.

Travel to Belgium
From December 3-5, Secretary Pompeo travels to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in the semi-annual meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers. While in Belgium, Secretary Pompeo will also meet with Belgian Prime Minister Michel to discuss how the two countries can partner on areas of mutual concern. Trip Page»
Travel to France
From November 10-11, Secretary Pompeo traveled to Paris, France, where he joined President Trump in commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of the first World War, including visits to memorial sites and cemeteries to honor our shared sacrifice and reaffirm the Transatlantic Alliance. Travel to Georgia and Macedonia
From September 11-14, Assistant Secretary Mitchell traveled to Europe. In Tbilisi, Georgia, he met with senior officials, other political leaders, and civil society representatives to discuss U.S.-Georgian cooperation on a range of global issues. In Skopje, Macedonia, he met with Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and other senior officials to discuss U.S. support for the Prespa Agreement between Macedonia and Greece. More»

From June 17-22, Assistant Secretary Mitchell traveled to Romania, Croatia, Czech Republic, and Belgium. In Romania, he led the U.S. delegation to the sixth U.S.-Romania Strategic Partnership Dialogue; in Croatia, he met with senior Croatian officials to discuss developments in Croatia and the region; in Czech Republic, he participated in the U.S.-Czech Republic Strategic Dialogue; and in Belgium, he discussed areas of U.S.-European cooperation with EU officials. Travel to Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia
From May 22-24, Assistant Secretary Mitchell traveled to Germany, Hungary, and Slovakia, to participate in a meeting of U.S. Chiefs of Missions serving in Europe hosted by the United States European Command; to meet senior Hungarian officials and representatives from civil society; and to hold meetings with senior Slovak officials and representatives from civil society and think tanks. From April 27-May 3, Assistant Secretary Mitchell joined Secretary Pompeo in Brussels, Belgium, where the Secretary led the U.S. participation in the NATO Foreign Ministerial Meeting. The Assistant Secretary then visited Tbilisi, Georgia, to provide the keynote address at the NATO-Georgia Public Diplomacy Forum.
