Cannon Renewal Project

The Cannon House Office Building has not received a comprehensive systems upgrade since the 1930s, and many of the building's systems are original – dating back to 1908 or earlier. These systems are past the end of their useful lives and the increasing risk of their failure jeopardizes the building's long-term functionality and safety. Other necessary work includes upgrading infrastructure systems and repairing the exterior stone façade.

Conservatory Façade and Roof Restoration

The U.S. Botanic Garden will remain fully open and accessible throughout construction. During construction, the stone façade will be fenced-in, but accessible paths around the Conservatory will remain open. Access to the National Garden will remain available through two entrances on Maryland Avenue SW and Independence Ave SW. Some of the restoration work could create noise, but will occur before the Conservatory opens and have minimal impact on visitors.
