This morning, New Jersey students at Star Career Academy woke up to find the school had shut its doors. Getting a higher education takes time and costs money, and no student working hard to get ahead should wake up one morning and find out they've been kicked to the curb.

I know students have questions and so do I. To start, find out if you qualify for federal student loan forgiveness by visiting https://studentaid.ed.gov/…/forgiveness-cance…/closed-school

In the 24 hours since it was announced that President-Elect Trump has appointed Steve Bannon to serve as his chief adviser, my office has received thousands of calls from New Jerseyans who are rightly upset and frightened that someone who has promoted hateful, bigoted rhetoric and radical ideas through his website has been elevated to such a powerful role inside the White House. Hate has no place in our public discourse, let alone in the people’s house.

As we seek to move... the nation forward in the wake of this divisive election, it is critical that the President-elect demonstrate that he intends to govern on behalf of all Americans. I join the millions of Americans in calling on the President-Elect to reject hate and discrimination and I will stand with them to fight for a government and an inclusive agenda that represents all of us.

In the United States, we treasure the peaceful transition of power, and so I congratulate the President-elect despite my strong disagreements with him about our role in the world, the rights of women, and the importance of an immigration system reflective of our American values. While I can never forget what he has said about Hispanic Americans, the president-elect has an opportunity to show the community that his actions are different than his words. I have spent my whole li...fe working with people I didn’t agree with, spending time bringing a new perspective into their thinking and presenting facts and figures to back up the very real human side of a story. I have never stopped working to help the most vulnerable communities, and these next four years will be no different.

Senators Elizabeth Warren, Ron Wyden and I are disturbed by the new information from regulators about Wells Fargo. It suggests not only that Wells Fargo leaders knew about the fraudulent sales practices going on, but that they sought to cover it up and retaliate against whistle blowers. It seems every time we get more information, it just produces 10 more questions.

Three senators asked for data on forms filed by the bank, which former employees say contained negative comments as retaliation against whistle-blowers.

The National Flood Insurance Program is up for re-authorization in the coming year, and I will be leading the charge for real change and a top-to-bottom overhaul. While progress has been made, recovery has eluded too many of our loved ones and neighbors 4 years later. We need real reforms now. Let us pledge to never forget the struggles of #Superstormsandy survivors, and let us promise to learn from this disaster, so that we are better prepared and more resilient going forward. At the Senate hearing we held, Wells Fargo CEO John Stumpf said he wasn’t told about the widespread fraud going on under his nose until 2013. So I read him an email a New Jersey resident and former employee sent him in 2011, begging him to address the illegal scheme. He said he just didn’t remember that one. Really? CNNMoney finds more evidence both he and the bank’s board knew about it for years. Appears to be no evidence of selective amnesia…

A letter written by a Wells Fargo whistleblower in 2007 warned then-CEO John Stumpf of "widespread fraud," documents obtained exclusively by CNNMoney show.

Rasheeda Kamar was fired from Wells Fargo for refusing to take part in an illegal scheme, and she informed Wells Fargo President John Stumpf about the bank’s fraudulent practices two years before he claims to have known about it. Rasheeda is from New Milford, NJ, and I was happy to read Mr. Stumpf the letter she sent him when he testified before congress. “I don’t remember that one,” was his response. How convenient…

Employees tipped off the bank’s ethics hotline, human resources department and even the chief executive, but the problems persisted.

Last week, one of my colleagues dismissed the crisis in Flint as ‘other people’s grief.’ That’s a stunning statement, shocking in its blatant disregard for our fundamental mission to protect every American. In this Chamber there is no ‘other people’s grief.’ We are all Americans – one nation – one community – indivisible -- and in a community, there is no room to brush off a crisis as other people’s problem.

In the case of Flint, ‘other people’ are 100,000 fellow Americans ...-- the majority of whom are African-American, 40 percent of whom are living in poverty -- one in ten of whom are unemployed. The so-called ‘other people’ are children facing a lifetime of challenges, poisoned by a substance that we’ve known is toxic for decades. The ‘other people’ are parents, whose hearts are heavy with that thought that one of life’s most basic needs—clean water to drink—is being denied to their children.

We need to act NOW on #Zika! – not tomorrow, not the next day, not next week. NOW! Today I spoke on the Senate floor calling on Congress to finally defend our country from an insidious virus that most seriously affects our unborn children, potential robbing our next generation of fulfilling their dreams. This is personal for me. My daughter lives in Miami and is now six months pregnant. I am deeply concerned for her health, her wellbeing, and the wellbeing of my first grandchild. There is no excuse for delay. Congress MUST act!

'Whether in schools or during a Presidential election, people who bully are making up for some internal insecurity, and the results are too often tragic. I will call out bullying when I see it in politicians and public figures, and we all must call out bullying within our schools, friends and public spaces. That is how we end bullying to ensure everyone’s safety. #SpiritDay'
