Udall Statement on Climate Change Questions in Trump Energy Department Questionnaire

December 12, 2016
  • WASHINGTON -- Today, U.S. Senator Tom Udall urged President-elect Trump to explain the reasons for his 74-point questionnaire to Department of Energy employees. The document asks detailed questions about the department's work related to climate change, including the names of employees who have attended workshops on climate change policy, and asks for associated emails and documents.

    Udall made the following statement:

"The badgering tone of the questionnaire and its focus on particular meetings and emails related to important climate change work are troubling, and I urge the Trump transition team to clarify their intent as soon as possible. I hope it isn't to single out civil servants who are contributing important work to our understanding of climate change. Our national security relies on DOE and our national labs providing honest unbiased scientific information and advice to the president and his team. Different administrations have different policies and goals, but objective, scientific work should be a bipartisan priority."
