Ways & Means Advances Marchant’s IRS Email Transparency Act

The House Ways and Means Committee today voted to advance U.S. Congressman Kenny Marchant’s (TX-24) the IRS Email Transparency Act (H.R. 1152). The legislation would legally prohibit IRS officers and employees from using personal email accounts for official business.

Marchant released the following statement upon his bill’s passage out of the Ways and Means Committee:

“The IRS Email Transparency Act shines a light on irresponsible IRS behavior and takes important steps to safeguard confidential taxpayer information. I am glad that the Ways and Means Committee voted to advance the bill. The use of personal email for official IRS business jeopardizes the security of confidential taxpayer information. This is wrong and it should be against the law.”
